Situated just outside the fishing village of Crail, surrounded by open farmland and views out to sea, the Cow Shed has the best of land and water with the picturesque harbour just minutes away too!
The Cow Shed Crail is a blank canvas venue which lets you put your own unique touches to your wedding. With four fantastic indoor spaces which include The Steading Marquee, The Workshop, The Roundel and The Barn. There is also an Outside Patio courtyard and a large lawn, both perfect for the drinks reception.
There are lots of accommodation options onsite from the modern farmhouse to country cottages, so plenty of room to accommodate up to 50 guests.
If you were thinking about a barn wedding then you will love The Cow Shed Crail, so we were delighted to be invited back there again for the wedding photography of Lara & Tony.
The Cow Shed Crail is another of our favourite barn wedding venues in Scotland and just a few miles around the coast from St. Andrews.
The barn itself is beautifully restored rustic barn and just over an hour travel from Glasgow and Edinburgh. The atmospheric Cow Shed barn was the perfect venue for the wedding of L&T.
The Cow Shed Crail is a blank canvas venue so L&T had the freedom to create their own individual wedding, adding lots of their own personal details to make their wedding their own.
The main feature is the traditional stone barn which is often used for the ceremony, but outside weddings are possible on the lawn. The venue also has a Steading Marquee which is very spacious and set out for the wedding breakfast and the evening celebrations.
With an amazing courtyard, views of open countryside and out to sea, at the Cow Shed Crail you will love this perfect setting for your wedding.
A Barn Wedding Ceremony
Lara and the girls stayed in the Sypsies Farmhouse which can sleep up to 14 and is located right next to the venue, so no need for any weddings cars!
Although the Cow Shed has a selection of onsite cottages to choose from, Tony and the boys decided to stay in a larger rental property in Crail, just 5mins from the venue.
L&T decided to hold their ceremony in The Barn and wanted to include a Handfasting, an ancient Celtic ritual in which the hands are tied together to symbolise the binding of two lives. After the ceremony, a confetti shot on the back lawn then time to let the fizz flow at the drinks reception in the glorious sunshine!
We left Paula with the guests to capture the candid photos at the drinks reception, while I disappeared with L&T s for their couple photographs in the Courtyard. We often like to visit the nearby picturesque harbour for some of the couple shots, but time with their guests at the drinks reception was more important to L&T, although we did arrange a clifftop walk after the wedding breakfast in the evening sunshine.
Following the afternoon feature photos, including a spectacular bottle opening of fizz, L&T still had lots of time to spend with their guests at the drinks reception, then time to invite everyone for the big group photo in The Courtyard with lots of family portraits too.
After some special moments during the speeches, the wedding breakfast was provided by the outstanding Delicious Catering in the Steading Marquee, then it was time to get the dancing shoes on! L&T’s first dance was followed by lots of ceilidh dancing that had the kilts swinging on the dance floor!
