Robyn & Matt’s Winter Wedding at the Kingshouse Hotel
Robyn & Matt’s Winter Wedding at Kingshouse Hotel — Snowy Mountains, Blue Skies & a Highland Celebration.
Robyn and Matt’s wedding at the Kingshouse Hotel in Glencoe was the perfect blend of adventure, family, and breathtaking Highland scenery. Travelling all the way from Essex with their three sons, Robyn and Matt brought their closest family and friends north to celebrate in one of Scotland’s most spectacular landscapes.
With Matt’s family and friends joining from Wales, the day felt like a wonderful coming together of people from across the UK — all gathered in the heart of the Scottish Highlands.
And the Highlands delivered something very special: clear blue skies and snow-capped mountains, a rare treat for a winter wedding in Glencoe.
Two Photographers, Two Stories — The Advantage of a Husband & Wife Team
Like almost all of our couples, Robyn and Matt chose to have two photographers, this allowed us to capture the entire story of their wedding day from different perspectives.
In the morning, Paula joined Robyn and the girls as they got ready. Bridal preparations are always full of lovely natural moments — laughter, excitement, final touches of hair and makeup, and those quiet moments before the ceremony.
Meanwhile, I met Matt and the boys for a relaxed pre-ceremony photoshoot around the grounds of the Kingshouse Hotel. With the snow-covered mountains surrounding the hotel, it was the perfect setting for some relaxed portraits before guests arrived.
Having two photographers meant we could capture:
Both partners getting ready at the same time
Different perspectives throughout the day
More natural moments with family and guests
A fuller story of the wedding day
An Outdoor Ceremony with Incredible Highland Views
One of the most memorable parts of the day was Robyn and Matt’s outdoor ceremony.
Set against the dramatic backdrop of Glencoe, the ceremony overlooked the iconic mountain Buachaille Etive Mòr, its snow-covered slopes dominating the landscape behind them.
Winter weddings in the Highlands often bring dramatic weather, but on this day the skies were beautifully clear — deep blue above the white peaks — creating an unforgettable setting for their vows.
It was the kind of moment that reminds everyone why Glencoe is one of the most breathtaking places in Scotland to get married.
A Cosy Drinks Reception by the Log Fire
After the ceremony, guests gathered inside the Kingshouse Hotel’s bar area for the drinks reception.
With the cold Highland air outside, stepping inside to the warm glow of a roaring log fire created the perfect cosy atmosphere. Guests warmed up with drinks, chatted, and enjoyed the spectacular views through the windows while the newlyweds soaked in the moment with their friends and family.
These relaxed parts of the day are always great for capturing candid photographs — genuine smiles, hugs, and laughter.
Couple Portraits Beneath the Snow-Covered Mountains
The scenery around the Kingshouse Hotel is extraordinary, so it was the perfect time to step away briefly for couple portraits.
With Buachaille Etive Mòr towering behind them and the River Etive flowing nearby, Robyn and Matt’s portraits felt almost cinematic. The snow-covered landscape and crisp winter light created dramatic yet romantic images that truly captured the spirit of Glencoe.
It’s one of those locations where the landscape becomes part of the story of the wedding day.
Family Photos with a Highland Backdrop
Group family photographs were taken outside near the hotel, with the incredible mountain scenery stretching out behind everyone.
Even quick group photos feel special here — because the surroundings are simply spectacular. Having that dramatic Highland landscape behind the family photographs makes them feel even more memorable.
Speeches, Dining & Celebration
Back inside the Kingshouse Hotel, the reception continued with a fantastic meal provided by the Kingshouse Hotel’s in-house catering team.
The food was outstanding and the atmosphere in the room was full of energy as speeches began. There were plenty of laughs throughout — the kind of hilarious, heartfelt speeches that keep everyone smiling long after they’re finished.
First Dance & A Lively Ceilidh
The evening celebrations began with Robyn and Matt’s first dance. Matt twirled Robyn around the dance floor, setting the tone perfectly for the night ahead.
After that, the dance floor quickly filled for a lively ceilidh, with guests from Essex, Wales, and beyond joining together in traditional Scottish dancing.
Ceilidh dancing always brings fantastic energy to weddings — spinning, laughter, and a dance floor packed with people enjoying every moment.
A Highland Wedding to Remember
Robyn and Matt’s winter wedding at the Kingshouse Hotel was a beautiful reminder of how magical the Scottish Highlands can be.
From snow-covered mountains and rare blue winter skies to cosy fireside drinks and energetic ceilidh dancing, their day had everything that makes a wedding unforgettable.
And with two photographers capturing every part of the story — from morning preparations to the last dance — their memories of this incredible Highland celebration will last a lifetime.
