An intimate Wedding at Kingshouse Hotel Glencoe
Kingshouse Hotel, Glencoe: A Dream Location for a Wedding
Few places in Scotland stir the soul quite like Glencoe, and at the heart of this dramatic landscape sits the iconic Kingshouse Hotel. For photographers, this is more than just a wedding venue; it’s a front row seat to one of the most cinematic environments in the Highlands. From sweeping mountain vistas to intimate details shaped by weather and light, Kingshouse Hotel Glencoe is a dream location to tie the knot.
First Impressions of Kingshouse Hotel Glencoe
Arriving at Kingshouse Hotel feels like stepping into a carefully composed frame. Surrounded by towering peaks such as Buachaille Etive Mòr, the hotel stands proudly against a backdrop of rugged mountains, open moorland, and endlessly shifting skies. For us as wedding photographers, the immediate appeal is obvious: scale, drama, and atmosphere in every direction.
The hotel’s modern yet understated design blends beautifully into the landscape, offering clean lines that contrast with the wild terrain—perfect for storytelling images that balance luxury with raw nature.
Golden Hour and Blue Hour: Light at Its Best
One of the biggest advantages of photographing weddings at Kingshouse Hotel in Glencoe is the quality of light. Thanks to the open glen and surrounding mountains, light behaves differently here; soft one moment, intense the next at any time of the year.
Golden hour bathes the hotel and surrounding hills in warm, directional light, ideal for couple portraits in the wide landscape.
Blue hour brings moody tones, glowing windows, and a sense of warmth against the cool Highland air—perfect for couple portraits.
Overcast days (which Glencoe does have it’s fair share off), create diffused light that’s excellent for detail shots, portraits, group photos and even the light-filled interiors.
Wildlife Encounters You Can’t Plan—but Should Be Ready For
One of the unique photographic features of Kingshouse Hotel is its frequent red deer visitors. These animals often wander close to the hotel, offering rare opportunities for placing the local wildlife in some of the photos.
For us, this adds an unpredictable but magical element. A stag silhouetted against misty mountains or grazing near the hotel instantly elevates a visual story and reinforces the sense of place that Glencoe is known for.
Interior Photography: Warmth, Texture, and Story
Inside, Kingshouse Hotel offers a contrast to the wild outdoors—warm textures, natural materials, and panoramic windows that frame the landscape like artwork. There are also a large wood burning fires in both the main reception and in the drinks lounge, so you will never feel a winter chill!
Weather: Glencoe’s Secret Weapon for Wedding Photographers
Glencoe’s weather is famously unpredictable and that’s exactly why we love it. Low clouds, drifting mist, sudden rain showers, and fleeting sunlight all contribute to ever-changing scenes.
Rather than fighting the weather, wedding photography at Kingshouse Hotel Glencoe is about embracing it. Moody conditions add drama and emotion, making images feel cinematic and timeless. Some of the most powerful shots come from moments when the landscape feels wild and untamed.
Its isolated location, iconic surroundings, and strong sense of place make it instantly recognisable and highly sought after. Images captured here don’t just show a wedding venue, they tell a story of escape, adventure, and connection to nature.

An outdoor & Indoor Wedding Ceremony in Glencoe
Clem & Jack’s Wildly Romantic Wedding at Kingshouse Hotel, Glencoe
Some weddings feel perfectly placed, as if the landscape has been quietly waiting for that exact couple. Clem and Jack’s wedding at Kingshouse Hotel in Glencoe was one of those days.
Set deep in the Scottish Highlands, with Buachaille Etive Mòr rising dramatically behind it, Kingshouse is never anything less than cinematic. But on this day, with low clouds rolling through the glen and that soft Highland light doing its thing, it felt especially magical.
Clem and Jack are the kind of couple who bring calm with them. No fuss, no rush—just a genuine excitement to get married in a place they love, surrounded by their favourite people. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was relaxed and full of quiet joy. The kind of wedding where laughter comes easily and everything feels very them.
Paula was with Clem to photographer her & the girls getting ready in the bridal suite overlooking the glen, the windows framing the mountains like a living painting. There’s something grounding about getting married in a place like Glencoe, you’re constantly reminded how small you are, in the best possible way. Jack, meanwhile, was all smiles, clearly counting down the moments until he’d see Clem walk down the outdoor aisle. While Paula was with the girls, I like to take the boys for a pre-wedding shoot if they decide that they don’t want any shots of them donning their kilts in the morning!
The ceremony itself was intimate and heartfelt, with the Highlands providing an unbeatable backdrop. As the couple exchanged vows, the weather did that classic 4 seasons in one day Glencoe thing; at first a little ‘moody’ then the brollies were handed out as a weather front appeared from nowhere. This all added drama, especially as the conditions suddenly got very lively, so Clem decided to call a halt to the outdoor ceremony. The beauty of Kingshouse is the indoor space can be setup for this very eventuality, so it was a ceremony of 2 halves as Clem & Jack finally tied the knot under cover!
Afterwards, The weather changed yet again and was much kinder to us, so we headed outside for portraits, and this is where Kingshouse really shines. Vast landscapes, winding roads, endless texture and scale. Clem and Jack wandered, held hands, laughed, and completely forgot about the camera. Those are always our favourite moments, the in-betweens, the quiet glances, the ‘we actually just did this’ smiles.
The celebrations continued back at the hotel with great food, heartfelt speeches, and the kind of warm, candlelit atmosphere that makes you want the evening to slow down just a little. It felt less like a formal wedding and more like the best dinner party you’ve ever been to, but just with a marriage thrown in.
Clem and Jack, thank you for trusting us to capture all the special moments from your big day. Your wedding was a reminder of why we love photographing elopements and intimate celebrations in the Highlands—real moments, incredible landscapes, and love that doesn’t need to shout to be felt.
If you’re dreaming of getting married somewhere wild, meaningful, and unapologetically beautiful, Kingshouse Hotel in Glencoe is hard to beat. Hope to see you there…!
