A Beautiful Humanist Wedding at Megginch Castle

Jennifer and Stephen’s wedding at Megginch Castle was a wonderful celebration filled with family, tradition, and plenty of memorable moments. Set against the stunning backdrop of one of Scotland’s most historic castle venues, their day combined meaningful Scottish wedding rituals with a relaxed and joyful atmosphere shared by their closest family and friends.

From getting ready within the castle walls to ceilidh dancing late into the evening, every part of the day reflected their personalities and their love story.

Getting Ready at Megginch Castle

One of the many advantages of a wedding at Megginch Castle is the opportunity to stay and prepare on-site, making for a relaxed and seamless start to the day.

Jennifer spent the morning getting ready in one of the castle apartments alongside her mum, maid of honour and man of honour. Her two young nieces, who were also bridesmaids, added plenty of excitement and smiles to the preparations. The atmosphere was calm and full of anticipation as everyone helped Jennifer get ready for the ceremony ahead.

Meanwhile, Stephen arrived at the castle with his two best men. Before guests arrived, we took the opportunity to capture some relaxed portraits around the front of the castle and grounds, making the most of the incredible surroundings.

Guests Arrive at the Castle

As guests began to gather around the castle grounds, there was a wonderful atmosphere as family and friends caught up and eagerly awaited the start of the ceremony.

Megginch Castle provided the perfect setting for everyone to relax, enjoy the surroundings and celebrate the occasion together.

A Meaningful Humanist Ceremony

Jennifer and Stephen chose a Humanist ceremony led by celebrant Tommy Baxter, incorporating several beautiful Scottish traditions that made the ceremony especially personal and meaningful.

Weather permitting, the ceremony was held outdoors, allowing guests to enjoy the stunning castle grounds and creating a spectacular setting for the couple to exchange their vows.

Their ceremony included a handfasting ceremony, a quaich ceremony, a ring blessing, and the exchanging of vows. Each element added its own significance to the occasion, reflecting both Scottish heritage and the couple’s commitment to one another.

The combination of tradition, personal stories and heartfelt promises created a ceremony that was both emotional and memorable.

Confetti Celebrations

Immediately following the ceremony, guests lined the aisle to welcome the newlyweds with a colourful confetti shower.

These moments are always some of the most joyful parts of a wedding day, and Jennifer and Stephen’s confetti walk was no exception. Surrounded by smiling faces, cheers and a shower of confetti, it was the perfect way to begin married life together.

Drinks Reception & Castle Grounds

Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed drinks and canapés while making the most of the beautiful surroundings.

Megginch Castle offers a wonderful balance of formal elegance and relaxed outdoor space, allowing guests to mingle, enjoy the scenery and celebrate with the newlyweds before the next part of the day unfolded.

The drinks reception also provided plenty of opportunities for candid photographs and natural moments between family and friends.

Couple Portraits Around Megginch Castle

We then headed off for some time alone with Jennifer and Stephen to capture their couple portraits.

Megginch Castle provides no shortage of beautiful locations for wedding photography, from the historic castle architecture to the surrounding gardens and grounds. The relaxed portrait session allowed the couple to take a breather from the celebrations while creating some timeless images together.

The variety of backdrops available throughout the estate makes Megginch one of the most versatile wedding venues in Scotland for photography.

Group Photos with Family & Friends

Group photographs brought together family members and friends who had travelled to celebrate with Jennifer and Stephen.

There was a fantastic sense of togetherness throughout the day, and the group photographs captured those important memories that will be treasured for generations.

Speeches Full of Laughter & Emotion

The wedding breakfast was followed by three heartfelt speeches that perfectly reflected the couple and the relationships they share with their family and friends.

As always, the speeches brought a mixture of laughter, touching stories and plenty of memorable moments that had guests both smiling and emotional throughout.

These are often some of the most genuine moments of any wedding day, and Jennifer and Stephen’s speeches were no exception.

Cake Cutting & First Dance

As the evening celebrations began, Jennifer and Stephen gathered with their guests for the traditional cake cutting before heading straight into their first dance as husband and wife.

Surrounded by family and friends, it was a wonderful moment and the perfect way to begin the evening party.

The live band then kept the celebrations going, including two ceilidh dances that quickly filled the dance floor and encouraged guests of all ages to get involved.

From their heartfelt Humanist ceremony featuring handfasting and a quaich ceremony, to their confetti-filled exit and lively ceilidh dancing, every part of the day felt personal and meaningful.
