Set within the beautiful Perthshire countryside, Errol Park is a wonderful venue to photograph a wedding. With its historic mansion house, gardens, mature trees and characterful surroundings, there’s a huge amount of variety without having to take couples away from their guests for long.
We had the pleasure of photographing Bryony and Will’s wedding at Errol Park, giving us the opportunity to experience the venue throughout an entire wedding day. From the excitement of the preparations and their outdoor ceremony to relaxed photographs around the estate and a brilliant evening celebration, Errol Park provided a beautiful backdrop at every stage.
As a husband-and-wife photography team, we love venues like Errol Park. Having two photographers allows us to capture both sides of the preparations as well as different perspectives throughout the ceremony and reception, while keeping everything relaxed and unobtrusive.
Getting Ready for the Wedding
The getting-ready part of a wedding is always one of our favourite times to photograph. There’s a mixture of excitement, anticipation and the occasional nerves, alongside all the little moments between family and friends that can easily go unnoticed later in the day.
With two photographers, we can divide our time naturally between both sides of the wedding. While Paula concentrates on the bride and the preparations around her, Brian can spend time with the groom and his party before the ceremony.
Rather than trying to stage everything for the camera, we prefer to photograph these parts of the day as they happen. The result is a much more complete story, with photographs of the people, details and atmosphere as everyone gets ready for the celebrations ahead.
An Outdoor Wedding Ceremony at Errol Park
One of the highlights of Bryony and Will’s Errol Park wedding was their outdoor ceremony in the grounds.
Surrounded by the greenery and mature landscape of the estate, the outdoor setting created a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere for the ceremony. It also gave us plenty of opportunities to photograph not only Bryony and Will, but the reactions of their family and friends as the ceremony unfolded.
This is where having two photographers can really make a difference. One of us can concentrate on the couple and the important moments at the front while the other captures different angles, guest reactions and the wider setting.
Those photographs help tell a much fuller story of the ceremony, particularly moments such as the arrival of the bride, the exchange of vows and rings, and the reactions of the people closest to the couple.
Relaxed Drinks and Candid Wedding Photography
Once the ceremony was over, everyone could relax and enjoy the drinks reception.
This is usually when we step back and concentrate on natural, candid wedding photography. Rather than constantly directing people or asking them to pose, we move quietly amongst the guests and photograph the conversations, laughter, hugs and little moments happening around us.
For Bryony and Will, the grounds at Errol Park provided plenty of space for everyone to mingle and enjoy the afternoon.
We always try to keep family and group photographs organised and efficient too. Once those are complete, everyone can return to enjoying the reception while we continue photographing the day naturally.
Wedding Photographs Around Errol Park
One of the things we particularly enjoy about photographing weddings at Errol Park is the variety of locations available for couple portraits.
The mansion house, gardens, mature trees and surrounding estate all provide very different backgrounds within a relatively small area. It means we can create a varied collection of photographs without turning the couple portraits into a lengthy photoshoot.
Our approach is always relaxed. We don’t want couples disappearing from their wedding for an hour while we take hundreds of posed photographs. Instead, we usually take a short walk, allowing the couple to spend some time together while we create a mixture of natural photographs and a few gently directed portraits.
Errol Park works particularly well for this because there’s so much variety close at hand. We can make use of the architecture and more formal areas before moving into the softer, natural surroundings of the gardens and grounds.
And, of course, Scottish weather doesn’t always behave exactly as planned. Having photographed weddings across Scotland for many years, we’re used to adapting quickly and making the most of whatever conditions the day gives us.
A Relaxed Wedding Reception
After the photographs, it was time for Bryony and Will to rejoin their guests and enjoy the rest of their celebration.
The reception is another part of the wedding where having two photographers allows us to concentrate on much more than simply photographing whoever is speaking.
During speeches, for example, some of our favourite images are often the reactions around the room — laughter between friends, proud parents, emotional moments and the occasional expression that the person giving the speech might not even have noticed.
These are photographs that become increasingly important over time because they show not just what happened, but who was there and how the day actually felt.
Evening Celebrations at Errol Park
As the formalities of the day came to an end, the atmosphere changed again and everyone could concentrate on celebrating.
The evening gives us another completely different set of photographs. After the first dance, we stay to capture some of the energy of the dance floor and the guests enjoying themselves before our coverage comes to an end.
By this point we’ve photographed everything from the quieter preparations and ceremony through to the speeches, portraits and evening celebrations. It’s this complete story of the wedding that we want our couples to receive rather than simply a collection of posed photographs.

For us, Errol Park is a fantastic Perthshire wedding venue for photography because it offers so much variety in one place.
The character of the mansion, beautiful gardens and established grounds give us plenty of options throughout the day, while the layout allows us to create photographs without couples having to spend long periods away from their family and friends.
Bryony and Will’s wedding was a perfect example of the kind of day we love photographing — relaxed, personal and filled with genuine moments.
Our approach to an Errol Park wedding is much the same as every wedding we photograph. We’ll help when we’re needed, organise things when necessary and offer a little direction for portraits, but for most of the day we’ll simply let you enjoy your wedding while we concentrate on capturing it.
