A Relaxed Woodland Wedding Full of Love & Joy

Ellie and Kirsty’s wedding was a wonderful celebration filled with laughter, personal touches and a relaxed atmosphere from beginning to end. Surrounded by family and friends, they created a day that perfectly reflected their personalities while making the most of the beautiful surroundings of our local wedding venue, Comrie Croft.

From an emotional first look to a woodland ceremony and an evening packed with dancing, every part of the day felt authentic, fun and full of love.

Getting Ready with Family & Friends

One of the biggest advantages of having two photographers on the day was the ability to capture both Ellie and Kirsty’s preparations simultaneously.

While I joined Ellie in the farmhouse as she got ready with her closest family and friends, Paula spent time with Kirsty in one of the steading bedrooms. This meant both sides of the story could be documented without either of them missing a moment.

From the excitement of the final preparations to the laughter shared with friends and family, having two photographers ensured every part of the morning was covered naturally and unobtrusively. It also allowed us to capture genuine reactions and little moments happening in different locations at exactly the same time.

These quieter moments before the ceremony are always some of the most special to photograph, and being able to tell both Ellie and Kirsty’s stories equally added an extra layer to the final collection of images.

An Emotional First Look

Before the ceremony, Ellie and Kirsty chose to share a private first look together.

Having two photographers was particularly valuable during the first look, allowing us to capture both Ellie and Kirsty’s reactions simultaneously. These genuine emotional moments only happen once, and photographing them from multiple perspectives helped tell the complete story of their day.

First looks are becoming increasingly popular, allowing couples to spend a few quiet moments together before the celebrations begin. For Ellie and Kirsty, it was a chance to see one another for the first time and take everything in before being surrounded by their guests.

A Woodland Ceremony with Scottish Traditions

One of the highlights of the day was the outdoor ceremony planned within the woodland area at the top of the track.

Surrounded by nature and their closest family and friends, it created a beautiful and intimate setting for their vows. The woodland backdrop added a unique atmosphere that perfectly suited the relaxed feel of the day. The venue also offered excellent alternative locations, ensuring the ceremony would remain just as special whatever the Scottish weather had in store.

The ceremony included several meaningful personal touches, including a handfasting ceremony, a quaich ceremony and a special reading. These elements added significance and reflected both tradition and the couple’s journey together.

With around 90 guests gathered to witness the occasion, the ceremony was filled with warmth, emotion and plenty of smiles.

A thoughtful detail was the inclusion of a video recording for Ellie’s grandmother, ensuring she could experience and treasure the ceremony even if she was unable to attend in person.

Confetti Celebrations in the Woods

Following the ceremony, guests celebrated the newlyweds with a joyful confetti throw using flower petals and paper confetti.

Set against the natural woodland backdrop, it created a beautiful and colourful moment filled with excitement and celebration. These are often some of the most energetic photographs of the day, and Ellie and Kirsty’s guests certainly didn’t disappoint.

The woodland setting also provided the perfect opportunity for some relaxed couple portraits immediately after the ceremony, allowing the newlyweds to enjoy a few quiet moments together before returning to their guests.

Drinks Reception & Relaxed Celebrations

While guests enjoyed drinks and conversations back in the courtyard, there was a wonderful sense of celebration throughout the venue.

One of the best parts of any wedding day is watching guests relax, catch up with family and friends and enjoy the atmosphere. The drinks reception provided plenty of opportunities for natural, candid photographs that captured the genuine joy of the occasion.

Whether gathered outdoors in the courtyard or making use of the indoor spaces if the weather required it, everyone embraced the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere that Ellie and Kirsty had created.

Group Photos with Family & Friends

Group photographs brought together the people who had travelled to celebrate with the couple.

With around 90 guests attending, there was a fantastic sense of togetherness throughout the day. The courtyard provided a beautiful backdrop for these photographs, while the barn offered a practical and equally characterful alternative if needed.

These family photographs are always some of the most treasured images from a wedding day and provide lasting memories for generations to come.

Wedding Breakfast & Heartfelt Speeches

Guests were then invited through for the wedding breakfast, where the celebrations continued with great food, conversation and plenty of laughter.

A particularly personal touch came during the speeches, with Ellie and Kirsty taking to the floor themselves to share their thoughts, thanks and stories with their family and friends.

These moments often provide some of the most emotional and genuine reactions of the day, and they offered a wonderful insight into the couple’s relationship and the people who mean the most to them.

Cocktail Hour & Evening Celebrations

As the day moved into the evening, guests enjoyed a relaxed cocktail hour before welcoming additional friends and family for the evening reception.

The atmosphere shifted effortlessly from the formal celebrations of the day into a lively evening party, with everyone looking forward to the dancing ahead.

The cake cutting marked another special moment before Ellie and Kirsty took to the dance floor for their first dance together as newlyweds.

Dancing, Live Music & Ceilidh Fun

The evening entertainment combined live music, a DJ and ceilidh dancing, creating the perfect mix for guests of all ages.

Following their first dance, the celebrations quickly moved into a lively evening of music and dancing. There was even the possibility of an outfit change before the ceilidh began, adding another fun element to the festivities.

The dance floor remained busy as guests embraced the celebrations and made the most of the evening entertainment.
