A Hillside Ceremony at Alexander House
We were so happy to be back at another of our favourite local venues for the wedding of Amber & Jon at Alexander House. It is so close to us that we can actually see it from our garden down on the farm, so it definitely didn’t take us long to get there!
Located 2.5 miles from Auchterarder and the world-famous Gleneagles Hotel & Golf Course, Alexander House sits proudly in the Perthshire Hills, high above the surrounding countryside.
Alexander House has a history of being a place to rest, relax and celebrate happy occasions, especially for the tired drovers moving their cattle to market in Perth, Stirling and even as far as Edinburgh. They would often stop in the old steading and local rumour has it that they enjoyed a wee dram of ‘the water of life’ which is the literal translation of the Gaelic word for whisky, as there was an illicit still nearby!
We’ve got to be honest, we just love micro-weddings at Alexander House, everything is always so relaxed & stress free so you and your guests can just pour another glass of fizz, chill out and soak up outstanding surroundings.
Alexander House offers a great option for smaller weddings, a maximum of 24 adults in 8 bedrooms and a number of children’s bunk rooms (there are also glamping options in the onsite yurts, with wood burning stoves!). The venue can also hold much larger weddings in The Orangery and this space is perfect for weddings of 20 to 80 guests. The Orangery is light filled with a huge ceiling roof lantern to brighten the room during the day and perfect for star gazing into the Perthshire dark skies at night!
An Intimate Wedding Celebration in Perthshire
Amber & Jon travelled all the way from the USA to get married in their favourite country; Scotland!
We usually have to travel quite some distance to meet our couples on wedding days, but as Alexander House wedding photographers, this has got to be just about our closest venue, only a few miles from us and visible on the hillside from our house down on the farm.
Amber opted to look after her own hair & makeup (with some assistance from the bridesmaids!), in the morning and elected not to have any ‘getting ready’ photos as she wanted to make best use of our 3 hour Elopement Wedding Package to capture moments from the ceremony, drinks reception, couple feature photos and group shots (Plus lots of natural, reportage photos in between)!
How cool was it for amber and the bridesmaids to get ready in one of the yurts though, with all of just 50meters to walk to the ceremony location on the platform of another yurt with spectacular view of the Perthshire countryside as a perfect backdrop.
Following a very meaningful ceremony with readings from 2 of their guests, A & J decided to drink from a quaich, but we don’t think that Amber was an immediate convert to Jon’s whisky of choice, the Ardbeg Wee Beastie! More to Amber’s liking was the popping of a bottle of fizz, then the drinks reception kicked off in the late afternoon Spring sunshine.
We sneaked away from the guests and left them to enjoy more glasses of bubbly while we took a few couple photos with A & J around the grounds of Alexander House. They decided on a little time away from their guests to enjoy being just married with a stroll into the woods as the sun was beginning to dip towards the horizon. What a setting!
The guests rejoined us to go and see the Highland Coos, or as one of them said the ‘Hippy Cows’! Throw in a confetti shot, a quick change back into comfy cloths then time to tuck in to the prepared food by the fabulous Scotiq, ready to cook on the grill in one of the yurts. How could they go wrong!
Thank you so much Amber & Jon for having us along as your Alexander House wedding photographers, what cool a day!
