Hannah & Jonah’s Spring Wedding at Megginch Castle

A Historic Scottish Celebration Full of Heart & Tradition

Hannah and Jonah’s wedding at Megginch Castle was a perfect blend of history, romance, and fun-filled Scottish tradition. Set within one of Scotland’s most iconic and character-filled castles, their day was packed with meaningful moments, beautiful locations, and a brilliant atmosphere from start to finish.

From getting ready inside the castle walls to ceilidh dancing into the evening, this was a wedding to remember.

Getting Ready at Megginch Castle

One of the real advantages of a Megginch Castle wedding is the ability to get ready on-site—and Hannah and Jonah made the most of it. Both prepared for the day in adjoining rooms within the castle, adding to the excitement and anticipation as everything unfolded just steps apart.

Hannah spent the morning with her sister and her baby, her mother, and a bridesmaid—creating a relaxed, intimate atmosphere filled with laughter and those quiet, emotional moments before the ceremony.

Guests Welcomed by a Piper

As guests arrived, they were greeted in true Scottish style by a piper playing from the castle balcony. It was an incredible way to set the tone for the day—instantly atmospheric and unmistakably Scottish.

These unique touches are what make castle weddings in Scotland so memorable, especially at a venue as rich in history as Megginch.

A Regal Ceremony with a Surprise Twist

One of the most convenient (and magical) elements of the day was Hannah’s walk to the ceremony, stopping for a ‘first look’ with her father, then simply moving through the castle itself into the stunning, regal ceremony room.

The ceremony was filled with personal touches, including a handfasting ritual, adding a meaningful nod to Scottish tradition.

But perhaps the most memorable moment? Hannah and Jonah had secretly asked their celebrant to hide the wedding rings under two guests’ seats. As the ceremony unfolded, it was revealed who the unexpected “ring bearers” would be—creating a brilliant surprise and plenty of laughter.

Sunshine, Showers & Confetti Moments

In true Scottish fashion, the weather kept things interesting. While a heavy rain shower passed through during the ceremony, the skies cleared just in time for a beautiful confetti throw outside the main castle doors.

Bathed in sunshine, guests gathered to celebrate, creating one of those perfect, joy-filled moments that define a wedding day.

Drinks Reception in the Gardens & Conservatory

The drinks reception took place outdoors in the sunshine, as well as inside the stunning conservatory. Guests enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere, taking in the surroundings while catching up and celebrating together.

This mix of indoor and outdoor space is one of the many reasons Megginch Castle works so well as a wedding venue—offering flexibility no matter the weather.

Couple Portraits Around the Castle Grounds

Hannah and Jonah made the most of the incredible variety of photo locations at Megginch Castle.

We started inside, capturing elegant portraits on the grand staircase and in the ceremony room, before heading out onto the balcony for some classic castle views.

From there, we explored the wider grounds:

  • The charming stable courtyard
  • Woodland areas, daffodils and bluebells were just beginning to bloom
  • A truly remarkable yew tree, estimated to be over 1,000 years old
  • The historic Beech Walk, planted around 1750

Each location added a different layer to their story, combining history, nature, and timeless romance.

These moments brought everyone together and captured the full energy of the celebration.
